Career Structure for Council Workers Moving Ahead
01 August 2009
Read this update for AWU members who are council workers
The new career structure for council workers is moving closer to resolution following meetings last week between the AWU, the FEDFA and the Local Government Association of Queensland (LGAQ).
At these talks, the AWU has delivered an ultimatum to the LGAQ – stop delaying and have a document to us by this week.
The LGAQ has been delaying this application for seven years, and were asking for more time to determine their position. Enough is enough – the AWU has put an end to LGAQ delaying tactics.
The AWU and the FEDFA (the union which shares coverage with the AWU of plant operators in local councils) have been in talks, and are likely to have a joint position by the end of the week.
This will mean the new career structure will have more chance of being adopted, because council workers have the best chance of winning when all workers in all unions stick together.
